Human trafficking profits total roughly 150 billion dollars every year in revenue for traffickers. It’s easy to believe this is a problem “out there” or in third-world countries. The reality is that the sex industry is thriving everyday, right here in our communities and throughout the United States. The platforms and tactics for recruiting victims is ever-changing and the vulnerable are at risk. Awareness is rising, and this battle is being fought by many, but we have a long way to go! As an organization, Refuge for Women is deep in the trenches of this fight.
Refuge for Women Texas Gulf Coast is a 501c3 non-profit, faith-based organization. We are a part of a national organization that is the nation's largest housing program for victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Our Texas Gulf Coast location offers Transitional Living aftercare and Long-Term support as a multi-year continuum. The programs are designed to help our residents identify goals for their future, equip and assist them in reaching those goals, and to facilitate healing from long term trauma.
Our program is 100% free of charge for all residents. We cover all additional expenses that we cannot obtain through donations, grants or specific funding requests. We provide housing and food, personal care items, medical needs including vision and dental, therapy appointments and curriculum for learning, along with other critical supports needed and anything within our guidelines that is needed for healing and recovery. Our hope is for each woman to leave Refuge for Women equipped to be self-sustainable and to enjoy a life marked by dignity and hope.
